Camping with the Easter Bunny?

Camping is a favorite past time of folks in central Australia; particularly in the autumn when temperature become quite pleasant and the flies have died off. These occurrences happen to coincide with Easter on this side of the planet. Easter and autumn still seems a bit incongruent to me, but that’s the way it is.

Since my idea of roughing it is a Holiday Inn Express, and Jersey boy Dave is scared of bugs, we won’t be rolling our swags and heading out bush anytime soon. Because I have time on my hands, I have however noticed all the camping equipment that has been on sale lately. Many of these items wouldn’t immediately come to mind for the average American camper, but then again nobody said the Aussie’s were roughing it while camping.

No self-respecting Aussie can start their day without a cuppa (that’s Aussie for cup of tea). In the land of perpetual drought and constant fire restrictions, camp fires are a problem, so you’ll need to pack your propane hot water heater and super deluxe gas oven.

Just in case the hot weather reappears you just might want a tent fan or even a personal air conditioner. Yes – folks these do exist and they’re on sale at K-Mart in Alice Springs this week!

Since there aren’t any cushy camp grounds with power sources, you’ll need to bring along your own solar generate to run your lap top. I might be able to camp here.

Then just in case you get too well acquainted with nature you might just need the family pack of chocolate flavored wormer.

I am not making this stuff up!

I remember seeing an ad for the worm medicine right when we came to town and getting freaked out about it.

All those camping supplies would come in handy in Florida, particularly after hurricanes. I'm sure my friends would have loved a propane-powered A/C after Ivan.

Morning!

Loved the stuff. Am going to send a link on to Steve's relatives that do the annual campout with the cousins. If they are in need of something, I'll drop you a note and we'll see if we can get K-Mart to ship it to a closer location here in MN.....
