Australians are proud of their county and heritage. They also lean a bit more toward the pragmatic than the creative. This trend accounts for them changing the words to well known traditional Christmas carols insteading of bothering to think up new songs that will only be sung a few weeks out of each year.

Esky in the boot – esky is a generic term for cooler and boot is a reference to the back of the truck or the trunk of the car.
swaggie climbs aboard – A swag is a bed roll and a swaggie is someone walking down the road carrying their bed roll. Sort of like a hitch hiker but not really begging for a ride just walking to somewhere and willing to accept a ride if offered.
kelpie by my side – Kelpie is a breed of working dog and this one’s riding in the front of the ute next to the driver.
Thank you ma'am! I had the boot figured out. Now if I want to be sneaky with the teenager in the house I can talk about the Esky!
